Reckless Hearts Page 3
“Yeah, I’ve raced several times. It can be dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing. It’s reckless. It’s an adrenaline rush. Your heart is pumping hard and fast like it’s going to come out of your chest when you’re at the starting line. Then when you hit the pedal, those feel-good endorphins rush through your body as you speed over a hundred miles an hour in a quarter mile to the finish line.”
He leaned in closer. God how I wanted him to kiss me softly like he did that morning we woke up together in my bed. But he blinked and stepped back, and offered his hand. “Come on, let’s get you a beer and hang with everyone before I make Garrett eat dust and take his money.”
Thirty minutes later, Ben’s Chevelle and Garrett’s Camaro were at the starting line that was spray painted white. I smelled burnt rubber as Ben revved the engine of his car and spun his tires. Garrett did the same as people gathered, some standing at the finish line, cheering and shouting. It wasn’t until then that I understood how all of this was a rush of excitement for Ben and everyone there who watched.
A row of streetlights illuminated the long strip of the road they were about to race. I stood with Ben’s friends several yards away and gulped down two beers really quick. There was a chill in the air and I shivered, shoving my hands into the pockets of my jacket. I felt Carly as she looped her arm over mine. “You’re worried about Ben. But he’s going to blow past Garrett in seconds. Travis knows it. I know it.”
We watched as Brooke leaned into the driver's side of Garrett’s car. His hand reached out and palmed her ass and she giggled. When Brooke stepped back, she held a white bandana in one hand and strutted in her high heels to the front of the cars. She raised both hands, then suddenly dropped them. Ben and Garrett’s cars roared, their tires screaming, and they were off!
Their motors roared loudly as they sped down the street toward the finish line. Garrett’s Camaro was in the lead for only a few seconds, then Ben’s Chevelle blew right past him and it looked like he was going over a hundred mph! My heart raced and I held my breath as Ben was two car lengths ahead. His Chevelle crossed over the finish line first, where Travis and a few other people stood.
I jumped, clapping and shouting with Carly and his friends. Ben and Garrett climbed out of their cars as I ran over with Carly. Garrett handed Ben a wad of rolled-up cash and when he turned around, I rushed over and collided into him. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders and smashed my lips against his. I loved him. I couldn’t hold back any longer. Ben held me tight lifting me up off the ground and kissed me back.
He nuzzled my neck and growled, “Are you feelin’ it now, Madi? That high rushing throughout your body.”
“Yes! I love you Ben!”
He leaned back and his eyes were so intense as he stared into mine, “I love you too Madi. I think I’ve loved you ever since the first time I saw you.”
TRAVIS OFFERED CARLY a ride home so they could stay behind to party and celebrate. I scooted up close next to Ben and planted kisses down his neck, nipping at his earlobe while he drove me home. I remember all those times I wanted to touch Ben, kiss him, feel his lips on mine. I held back for so long because of the way I felt about myself. I didn’t want to hold back anymore. I wanted him. I always had.
“You’re making me hard.” He groaned as he gripped the steering wheel with one hand, with his other squeezing my ass.
Ben parked the Chevelle in his driveway and I took his hand, following him into his house. Ben was not holding back any longer too as he stalked toward me, pulling off his jacket and t-shirt. I peeled off my jacket and stepped back until I was up against his living room wall.
Ben moved in close, pinning my hands up above me to the wall. “I’m going to finish what you just started.”
His mouth was on mine, his tongue tasting and devouring me. He shifted his muscled thigh in between mine and pressed his hardness into my lower belly. I moaned in his mouth when he scooped my thighs up. I wrapped them around his waist, holding on to him as he carried me into his bedroom. We rushed, stripping out of our clothes, then our bodies molded together as we kissed. I was dizzy drunk on the taste and scent of him. He picked me up and carried me to his bed. He laid me down on it and covered me with his warm hard body.
He ran his fingers through my hair, his eyes full of hunger. “It will never be weird between us again Madi. We’ve become good friends and I’ve always loved you.”
He settled himself in between my thighs, his thick hardness nudged at my wet opening. He lowered down, his tongue plundering my mouth as he moved his hips slowly, inch by inch until his shaft was deep inside me.
He pulled out and sank back into me. I cried out, as I clenched, squeezing him tight with my soft warm pussy. We grunted and moaned as Ben picked up his pace. He reached down between us and gently rubbed my sensitive spot.
I arched my back, my breathing turned into pants. I cried out as my wet center exploded with an orgasm. Ben growled as I felt him throb and pulsate, coming deep inside me. He collapsed on top of me, and our bodies covered in a sheen of sweat. He nuzzled his cheek against my shoulder, our hearts racing fast.
We rested a while and talked and laughed. Then we made love again and again throughout the night until both of our nether regions were too sensitive and tender.
I fell asleep in Ben’s arms that night. When my eyes opened to the smell of coffee brewing, I realized I was still in his bed and it was early morning. He was gone, the sheets and blanket bunched up in the empty space next to me. I sat up, rubbing my eyes and yawned when Ben appeared. His blond hair was a mess, with pieces of it sticking straight up. He was shirtless, and he wore a pair of jeans. They were unbuttoned and hung low, revealing that V, which steered my eyes right to his crotch. He smiled, his blue eyes bright, carrying a tray to me and placed it on my lap.
He sat on the edge of the bed. “Remember I’m not good at cooking, but I toasted a bagel, made coffee and cooked some bacon for you.”
My mouth dropped open as I looked at the tray. The bagel, bacon, and coffee made my stomach grumble loud. Ben climbed on the bed next to me, propping his head on a bent elbow.
I remembered all the times I left Alex’s place in the middle of the night, feeling empty and lonely. Never feeling considered, never feeling taken care of.
My throat hurt as I try to hold back the tears. “Oh, Ben. No one has ever served me breakfast in bed. This is the sweetest thing ever. Thank you.”
He reached over, brushing his knuckles across my cheek. “Well get used to it. I love spoiling you.”
Our love grew even stronger during the winter season and through the holidays. I woke up Christmas morning in his bed. When I reached over Ben wasn’t there, and the space where he slept was not warm. He must have woken up very early.
Then I heard the front door close shut as Ben entered. When he appeared in the doorway of the bedroom, he was holding a little female puppy in his arms. It was a brindle color and it wore a big red bow around its neck.
I sat up and squealed with happiness when Ben placed the squirmy little puppy in my lap. “Merry Christmas Madi! Here’s your new baby.”
The puppy looked up at me, and jumped, licking my chin and cheek. I fell in love that instant. There was a new litter of puppies at the local shelter and Ben had adopted one the week before Christmas. He hid her from me at Travis’ house. I named her Holly.
EPILOGUE
VALENTINE’S DAY
MADI
It was around noon on Valentine’s Day when I saw Ben enter the office where I worked. I stood from my chair and so did others, watching Ben walk through the maze of cubicles holding a dozen red roses. He’d come to visit me at work sometimes and we’d spend our lunch hour together, going back to his place to have a quickie in his bed or right there on his living room couch.
Ben stopped in front of me. His gorgeous blue eyes gleamed when he planted a warm kiss on my lips. “Happy Valentine’s Day, Madi.”
He placed the roses on my desk and I couldn’t b
elieve my eyes when he suddenly knelt down on one knee. I heard a few of the girls gasp and my jaw dropped.
He pulled out a little box from his jacket pocket and opened it. Everything got blurry all of sudden when my eyes watered, as I looked at the diamond ring.
Ben cleared his throat, looking up at me. “I know that in the beginning, we moved way too fast. But we remained friends and with each day, our love grew and became stronger. I know what I want, Madi. I want you to be my wife. You’re very important to me. I promise I’ll always put you first because I love you. Will you marry me?”
“Yes!” I cried out and he pulled the ring from the box, the diamond sparkling.
Ben stood and slid the ring on my finger. I closed my eyes and kissed him, as we heard the whole office holler and clap for us.
